However, the crucial resource needed for life is fresh water.
Some 97% of the World's water resources are salt water. If we deduct the ice on the poles, the glaciers, the atmosphere - we are left with a mere 0.6% of global water resources that can be used as drinking water.
Climate changes on all continents, expanding deserts (i.e. the Sahara), the global greenhouse effect - all these are warning signals that we must take more responsibility in preserving the World's diminishing freshwater resources.
Today, there is an ever-increasing demand for water treatment in order to obtain drinking water.

Ozone

Ozone's growth in domestic drinking water treatment has been dramatic, both in Europe since the early 1900s and in North America for the past three decades. The many advantages of ozone as a multi-platform treatment technology are well documented, however ozonation is a cost saving method compared to other technologies.

Ozone is the only oxidizer of some pollutants. Cryptosporidium parvum, for example, is very resistant to most chemical disinfectants but is economically and effectively destroyed by ozonation. Most other applicable methods act only as barriers to cysts but do not actually destroy them.
Ozone cost less than half of what it was only seven years ago. As the cost of ownership goes down and application methods are optimized, ozone will continue to be at the forefront of desirable and economical drinking water treatment technologies.
